Soap-Making Workshops are held regularly at Katzima Farms. One-on-one instruction and "mentoring" by telephone are also available. If you do not live in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area, accommodations can be arranged at a local bed & breakfast not far from our little farm.
Our Beginner's Workshop is for students who have never made
soap using lye. It is a small-batch class using a tried-and-true
formula and equipment you already have on hand. All equipment and materials
are provided for you. Minimum class size: 5 students. Meet our graduates.
Workshop Fee: $60.
Optional Lunch and Q&A Session after the Workshop: $20.

Our Advanced Workshops are custom tailored to your needs.
Topics may include:
large-batch soap-crafting, retailing,
selling at crafts fairs, getting a Web site, and
starting & running a small soap-making business. Minimum class
size and fees vary.
Cynthia Daly, one of our workshop graduates, writes:
Learning to make soap with Janie Johns several years ago has turned out to be so much more than just "learning to make soap." Janie's teaching method is more like a giving method. ... She offers knowledge, empathy, encouragement, support, and skill at creating opportunity. She is a patient and thorough teacher, communicator, and business woman, and I highly recommend that anyone interested in soap making and small business take advantage of her tremendous workshops.
If you are interested in attending one of our workshops, please call
Janie Johns at
(505) 553-2340 or e-mail her at
