In 1999, after my lengthy and costly divorce, I was left with
$36,199.74 of credit card debt and other financial obligations. My
attorney encouraged me to file bankruptcy, but I refused. Instead, I
enrolled in a not-for-profit debt reduction program, changed my
lifestyle, and took control of my spending. One of the tools that helped
